Red Bridge closed for assessment after fire in southern support beams: Kamloops RCMP
The Red Bridge on the Tk’emlups Indian Band in Kamloops was closed indefinitely on Tuesday after a fire broke out in one of its southern support beams on Sunday, according to the Kamloops RCMP.
RCMP say they received a report of an active fire underneath the southbound lane at roughly 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 7.
Witnesses reported seeing smoke and flames coming from the wooden structure of the overpass.

Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire, but not before it caused significant damage to the beam.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
As a result of the damage, the bridge has been closed to all traffic indefinitely.
Engineers are currently assessing the damage and will determine when it is safe to reopen the bridge.
In the meantime, motorists are being advised to use the Overlanders Bridge or the Trans-Canada Highway as alternate routes.
